const MaxNestingDepth = 1000
MaxNestingDepth is the deepest that selection sets, list and object values, and list types may nest, all counted together. The parser recurses once per level, and exhausting the goroutine stack is a fatal runtime error that recover cannot catch, so deeper input is rejected with a parse error instead. Real documents nest a few dozen levels; the stack runs out at several hundred thousand.
