README

AgentExperience for Go

A Go core of AgentExperience that implements the language-neutral contract, so a lesson learned by a Go program is stored in the format the .NET and Python libraries read, and the other way round, with a Microsoft Agent Framework for Go integration.

Status: preview, contract 1.8, with a Microsoft Agent Framework integration (the maf module). It passes every fixture of contract 1.8 (and so every 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7 fixture). Every release of this repository tags each module at the same version as the .NET packages (v0.1.0-preview.N), and the Go module proxy serves it from there. Like the .NET packages, it claims no production readiness, and its API may change between previews. It is Apache-2.0, as the repository is.

go get github.com/fabbrik/AgentExperience.NET/go/maf@latest

That brings the core (.../go) with it; add .../go/postgres or .../go/inmemory for a store the same way.

Modules

Module (in) Go Requires What it is
.../go (.) 1.24 nothing The core: capture, finalize, the block, the task text, search and ranking, the verifiers and classifiers, the identity
.../go/postgres (postgres/) 1.25 pgx v5 The PostgreSQL store
.../go/inmemory (inmemory/) 1.25 golang.org/x/text An in-memory store, for development
.../go/maf (maf/) 1.26 Agent Framework for Go v0.1.1 The one-call Agent Framework integration
.../go/postgres/pgtest (postgres/pgtest/) 1.26 testcontainers-go, the PostgreSQL store Test support only: the PostgreSQL server the tests share, and the store's PostgreSQL tests
.../go/telemetry (telemetry/) 1.26 the OpenTelemetry API Optional: reports spans and metrics to OpenTelemetry, as docs/telemetry.md documents. Nothing else requires it

The core's go.mod has no require, and a test checks that no file of it, tests included, imports anything but the standard library. Each other module is its own, so a program pays only for what it imports: the stores' Go 1.25 is what the pgx and golang.org/x/text releases without known vulnerabilities need (CI runs govulncheck), and 1.26 is the Go SDK's own minimum. The PostgreSQL test support is a module of its own, so the store's module requires no container library: it is on Go 1.26, where the Docker client testcontainers-go brings in has no known vulnerability, and every module, it included, passes govulncheck with nothing left out. The store's and the integration's tests also use a JSON Schema validator. Each module requires the others at the release's own version, and also builds them from their directories in this repository (a replace, which a program that imports the module ignores).

Quick start with Microsoft Agent Framework

Bring client (an OpenAI client, or any provider's) and runTests (your test run as a function tool, returning text such as exit=0). Development and tests only: see In production. The Go SDK builds an agent from its configuration once, so the one call wires the configuration before the provider's constructor builds the agent:

store, err := inmemory.New()
if err != nil {
	return err
}
identity, err := ae.DevelopmentIdentity(ae.DevelopmentOptions{}) // one local identity: development and tests only
if err != nil {
	return err
}
config := agent.Config{Name: "triage-ticket", Tools: []tool.Tool{runTests}}
if err := maf.UseAgentExperience(&config, maf.Options{Store: store, Identity: identity,
	Verify: ae.ToolSucceeded("run_tests"), ClassifyToolResult: ae.ExitCode("run_tests")}); err != nil { // your check, never the model
	return err
}
triage := openaiprovider.NewChatCompletionsAgent(client, openaiprovider.AgentConfig{Config: config, Model: model})
if _, err := triage.RunText(ctx, "Ticket #4812: a refund is stuck on a lock. Triage it.").Collect(); err != nil {
	return err
}
_, err = triage.RunText(ctx, "Ticket #4977: a refund is stuck on a lock again. Triage it.").Collect() // gets the lesson
return err

maf/example_test.go holds this snippet as a function, so go vet and go test keep it compiling. The second run's model is handed the Historical Reference block, as one user-role message just before the ticket, which names both of the first run's test runs:

Lesson: Verified after 1 attempt. Worked: attempt 0. Checks: [run_tests].
Tried:
  - attempt 0: run_tests [failed: exit 3], run_tests [returned] → completed

maf/examples/quickstart is based on this snippet and runs it with no key and no network: cd maf && go run ./examples/quickstart. It differs in what a runnable, repeatable demo needs: the model is a scripted stand-in (a provider Run function, wired with the SDK's automatic tool invocation as the OpenAI provider wires it, which calls run_tests until a call returns exit=0), the first test run of each ticket returns exit=3, the identity names its application, the recorded environment is fixed so the output is the same on every machine, and it prints each run and the block. Its output is checked in as quickstart.expected.txt, and a test compares them.

Semantic retrieval: registering an embedder

Without an embedder retrieval is text only, and a reworded query finds nothing it shares no words with. Implement ae.Embedder over any model (none is a dependency of this repository) and set maf.Options.Embedder, and retrieval becomes hybrid:

type myEmbedder struct{ client *myprovider.Client }

func (myEmbedder) ModelID() string { return "my-embedding-model" } // stored with every vector; another model's vectors are never compared
func (myEmbedder) Dimension() int { return 1536 } // the vector's length, known without calling the provider

func (e myEmbedder) Embed(ctx context.Context, text string) ([]float32, error) { // exactly Dimension() finite numbers
	return e.client.Embed(ctx, text)
}

err := maf.UseAgentExperience(&config, maf.Options{Store: store, Identity: identity, Verify: verify,
	Embedder: myEmbedder{client}})
  • In-memory and PostgreSQL stores. inmemory.Store compares 32-bit floats by cosine distance. postgres.Store needs PostgreSQL with pgvector, the .NET vectors package's migrations (0004, 0020) and the grants of sql/application-role-privileges-1.6.sql after the 1.0 and 1.4 files (or the .NET privileges call); it runs the contract's two new SQL files as written (WriteEmbedding, SearchVectors). Both are an ae.EmbeddingIndex.
  • Fail-open. The vector channel never fails or delays past VectorTimeout (default 500 ms, covering the embedding and the search) the text answer, and at most maf.MaxVectorCalls (16) embedder and vector-store calls are in flight at once, abandoned ones included, so a hung provider cannot starve the text search; past that a call fails at once. When the channel does not contribute the injection answers from text and reports the reason through OnVectorFallback and InjectionResult.VectorFallback: NotConfigured (no embedder, or a store that is not an ae.EmbeddingIndex), ProviderUnavailable (the embedder failed, panicked, ran out of time, or returned a blank model ID or an empty, wrong-length or non-finite vector; no statement runs), ModelMismatch or DimensionMismatch (every stored vector is of another model or width) and VectorSearchFailed. A failure of the text search still fails the injection, as without an embedder. MinVectorRelevance (0 to 1) drops vector candidates below it; text candidates are never dropped.
  • Writing embeddings. After a record is stored, a goroutine embeds its summary (task ID, task summary and lesson) and writes it, only while the record is still at that revision. It never runs inside the record's own commit and never fails capture: a failure is reported to OnCaptureFailure with the stage maf.StageIndex ("Index"). maf.WaitForIndexWrites(ctx, &config) (and ContextProviderOf(&config).Close(ctx)) awaits the ones still running. Records stored before an embedder was registered have no vector until one is written; the .NET library's re-index does it for a shared database.
See what it learned: the lessons view

A .NET developer can list what the library learned (AgentExperienceLessons); so can a Go one (contract 1.7). The view is read-only and lists the caller's own scope, newest first, under the caller's authorization bounds:

lessons, err := maf.LessonsOf(&config) // after UseAgentExperience; or maf.NewLessons(options), or ae.NewLessons(store, ae.LessonsOptions{...})
if err != nil {
	return err
}
page, err := lessons.ListFor(ctx, identity, ae.LessonQuery{Limit: 20}) // identity from your own authentication
for _, lesson := range page.Lessons {
	fmt.Println(lesson.Status, lesson.Confidence, lesson.IsEligible, lesson.IneligibleReason, lesson.LastInjectedAt)
}
  • What a lesson shows. Its status, confidence, creation and update instants, its checks (check ID, evidence kind and result, never the evidence's detail), BlockText (the Historical Reference block an agent would be shown for it alone, numbered 1, with no ranking and no limit: ae.RenderAlone, byte-equal to .NET's), whether retrieval would use it and why not, and when it was last injected and how often. Listing lessons discloses them: serve the view only behind your own authorization. It renders no HTML and maps no endpoint.
  • The query. Statuses (nil: every status), Limit (1 to 500, 50 by default, like .NET) and IncludeIneligible (nil: true). An invalid limit, or empty or undefined statuses, is an error before anything is read. A scope outside the bounds is an empty page with the outcome Denied, never an error and never a statement. HasMore is set when more lessons match, or may (the store answers at most 500 records).
  • Why a lesson is ineligible, decided in this order: Status (not Validated or Reinforced), BelowConfidenceFloor (below the retrieval minimum, 0.5; a NaN is below it), ModelAuthored (the setup's ExcludeModelAuthored), OverByteBudget (its block is larger than BlockOptions.MaxBytes) and Unrenderable (the block could not be rendered; it is listed, and the others still are). .NET's Expired and ContentUnconfirmed do not exist here: this port has no maximum-age policy and no provenance signing, so it never answers them.
  • Injections. LastInjectedAt and InjectionCount come from the same read as the page. When the injections table cannot be read (not migrated, or the role lacks the 1.4 grants) the page is read without them and says InjectionsTracked false: a nil LastInjectedAt then means "not known", not "never".
  • Stores. The PostgreSQL store runs the contract's list-experience-lessons.sql as written (a bounded read, at most 500 records, never a write) and the in-memory store holds the same data; both are an ae.LessonsReader.
What the one call wires
  • Capture: agent middleware and function invocation middleware, each put first so it wraps everything else on the agent (the history and context providers included). Each invocation, streaming or not, is one run of one attempt: every tool call with its arguments (sanitized when stored: only allowlisted values are kept, secrets redacted; arguments that are not a JSON object are recorded as none and reported), its result (text as it is, a *string unwrapped, framework text content as its text, anything else, other content included, as its JSON), and its error. An error a tool returns is recorded by its type's name only (io/fs.PathError; fmt.Errorf and errors.Join wrappers are looked through), never its message; a panic by its value's type (panic(string)), and then it goes on, unchanged. A tool that reports failure in its result is recorded as failed when ClassifyToolResult names a class for it; a class that is not a single error-class token is recorded as ToolReportedError. Calls the SDK runs in parallel are kept in the order they started. When the invocation ends, Verify decides from your own facts; a verdict is finalized through the core (the deterministic lesson, the derived IDs) and stored, its initial event recorded at the finalization's time on the integration's Clock. Without Verify nothing is stored. The run's provenance names agentexperience.maf and maf.Version(), this module's version as the build recorded it (0.0.0-dev for an untagged build).
  • Injection: a context provider (*maf.ContextProvider). It derives the task text from the invocation's messages (the contract's rule), searches the store in the identity's scope, ranks with the contract's weights, renders the block with BlockOptions (the contract's options and limits), and adds it as one user-role message (MessageRole: message.RoleSystem sends it as a system message) just before the new input (right after the replayed history; never after the input, even when no message of it came from outside the pipeline), stamped AdditionalProperties["AgentExperience.HistoricalReference"] = true and sourced as the context provider agentexperience. A configuration that already holds a *maf.ContextProvider gets no second one; DisableInjection captures without injecting.
  • Injection tracking (contract 1.4). Once a block is handed over, a store that is an ae.InjectionRecorder (the PostgreSQL and in-memory stores) is told which records it delivered, so the .NET lessons view shows when each lesson was last injected, by a Go agent too. It runs in a goroutine on the invocation's values but its own context, bounded by InjectionRecordTimeout (5 seconds, .NET's), and never delays or fails the invocation; a store call that overruns it is abandoned. OnInjectionRecorded reports how it ended (Recorded, NotTracked, NotRecorded or OutcomeUnknown, as .NET's record_injection operation), and maf.ContextProviderOf(&config).Close(ctx) awaits the records still running, for a host shutting down.
  • Semantic retrieval (contract 1.6), with an embedder you register (below). Injection then runs the text and the vector channel together, merges them and ranks as before; each stored record's summary is embedded in the background.
  • The injection holdout (contract 1.8), off by default; see Measuring benefit.
  • The task text, and where history sits. Capture records the task text of the invocation's own input. In the Go SDK a session's history provider always runs before the context providers, so injection sees the replayed history, then the new input, and derives the task text from both, as .NET's ChatClientAgent-level provider does: a request shorter than the follow-up threshold (64 characters, "and retry") is searched joined after the previous request. The SDK keeps the injected block in the session's history with the request; a replayed block is dropped from the request and never counts as one, so each request carries exactly one block.
  • The run's end, as in .NET and Python. An invocation whose provider returns an error ends its run Failed (the error is its type's name), one whose context is canceled or past its deadline ends it Cancelled (context.Canceled or context.DeadlineExceeded), and one whose caller stops reading its updates early ends it Cancelled (agent.RunStopped); Verify still decides whether that run is stored, and the error then reaches the caller unchanged. Finalization is bounded by FinalizationTimeout (5 seconds, .NET's FinalizationTimeout), on its own context (the caller's values, never its cancellation): past it the work is abandoned and reported ("the record may still be stored": a store write already under way may complete), its context ends, and it stores nothing more and calls no OnFinalized, so a cancellation is never held up longer than that. A panic through the invocation (the provider's, a later middleware's, or one raised in the caller's own loop over the updates, which runs inside the iterator) ends its run Failed, recorded as panic(<type>), and goes on unchanged.
  • Nothing returns an error or panics into the agent. A store, identity, classifier or verifier failure (a returned error or a panic) means no block or no stored record, reported through OnCaptureFailure or OnInjectionFailure (the reason never quotes record content). Only the invocation's own errors and the tool's own errors and panics reach the caller, unchanged. UseAgentExperience itself refuses what would fail every run: no store, no identity or both Identity and ResolveIdentity, a sanitization capture would refuse, an environment with a blank host, runtime or operating system (or a blank metadata key, or invalid UTF-8), block options the block cannot honour; and a second call on one configuration is maf.ErrAlreadyWired.

Verifiers (in the core) have the semantics of .NET's ExperienceVerifiers: ToolSucceeded(tool) (the last call to the tool decides), Check(id, fn) (your own check: true, false, or nil for "do not store"), Approval(id, fn) (a person's decision, by an opaque approver ID), AllOf(...) (every check; stops at the first nil) and AnyOf(...) (the first that passes); WithArtifactRevision names the revision. Classifiers (in the core) have the semantics of ExperienceToolResultClassifiers: ExitCode(tools...) and HTTPStatus(tools...) read a JSON object's top-level members, else the last match in the text, with .NET's \b, \s and case rules (they run on the error class's matcher, not Go's RE2). A blank tool name or check ID panics, as an invalid pattern does in regexp.MustCompile.

Measuring benefit: the holdout

The .NET library can estimate whether its lessons help, by comparing the verified outcomes of runs that were given them with runs they were withheld from (Injection: measuring benefit). A Go agent takes part with Holdout:

options := maf.Options{Store: store, Identity: identity, Verify: verify,
	Holdout: maf.HoldoutOptions{Rate: 0.1}} // Salt: ae.DefaultHoldoutSalt when empty
  • Off by default. The zero value (rate 0) changes nothing. A rate that is NaN, below 0 or above 1 is refused by UseAgentExperience. An empty Salt is ae.DefaultHoldoutSalt (agentexperience-holdout-v1), Go's zero-value idiom: where .NET and Python refuse an explicitly empty salt, Go cannot tell one from an unset one.
  • Who takes part. Only an invocation captured by the same UseAgentExperience call whose block names at least one record. Its arm is ae.AssignHoldout(runID, salt, rate): SHA-256 over the run ID's bytes and the salt, the first 8 bytes over 2^64, held out when below the rate. It is the arm .NET and Python assign the same run (the contract's holdout-assign fixtures pin it).
  • A held-out invocation gets no block (it is built first, so what is withheld is exactly what would have been delivered): no message, no exposure on the run, no injection record. The inject outcome is Withheld, and OnWithheld is told the withheld records (InjectionResult.WithheldExperienceIDs). This port has no withdrawal notices, so a held-out invocation never owes any.
  • A treatment invocation is injected exactly as without the holdout.
  • Both arms are recorded in the background, like injections: through a store that is an ae.HoldoutRecorder (the PostgreSQL store runs the contract's sql/record-holdout-assignment.sql; the in-memory store keeps the rows), bounded by InjectionRecordTimeout, fail-open, and never delaying the invocation. OnHoldoutRecorded reports how it ended (Recorded, NotTracked, NotRecorded or OutcomeUnknown, the record_holdout operation), and Close awaits it. On PostgreSQL the application role needs the grants of sql/application-role-privileges-1.8.sql.

Rows a Go agent writes are read by the .NET estimate unchanged (AgentExperienceBenefit.EstimateAsync), together with the .NET and Python agents' in the same scope. The estimate itself, acting on it, measuring another memory provider, exporting lessons and recording the run's model are .NET-only.

Telemetry: the same spans and metrics as .NET

The optional module .../go/telemetry (the OpenTelemetry API only; no SDK, no exporter) reports the operations the port performs to OpenTelemetry, under the names, dimensions and attributes docs/telemetry.md documents for .NET, so one dashboard serves a mixed fleet:

import "github.com/fabbrik/AgentExperience.NET/go/telemetry"

disable := telemetry.Enable() // the global providers your application configured; WithTracerProvider and WithMeterProvider override
defer disable()

It emits inject, retrieve, record_injection, record_holdout, capture.start_run, capture.append_attempt, capture.complete_run, verify, reflect, finalize and index (the background embedding write): the operations this port performs, and no other. The core and the integration import no OpenTelemetry: they call the observer hook (ae.SetObserver, one atomic load when nothing is registered), and go/telemetry is the adapter. A provider, exporter or observer that fails or panics is recovered and never reaches the agent. Spans parent under the context you pass: ae.StartRunContext, (*RunCapture).AppendAttemptContext, CompleteContext and FinalizeContext take the context (the integration passes the invocation's); the forms without one report root spans. Attributes carry identifiers and counts only, never record content, task text, scopes or error messages.

In production

The identity must come from your own authentication, never from model output: set ResolveIdentity, a function of the invocation's context and an IdentityContext (the agent and the session) that returns an *ae.Identity (principal and scope), or nil to leave an invocation neither captured nor injected. ae.DevelopmentIdentity runs everything as one fixed caller in one fixed scope, so it refuses (ae.ErrDevelopmentOnly) outside Development, Test or Testing: the AGENTEXPERIENCE_ENVIRONMENT variable is read first, then, by the .NET library's rule, DOTNET_ENVIRONMENT, else ASPNETCORE_ENVIRONMENT; with none set it is allowed (EnvironmentName names your host's own environment, and it is kept with the identity). UseAgentExperience checks a development identity, and a resolver that returns one is checked on every invocation: outside development the invocation is reported (ResolveIdentity) and runs with no memory. The store is the PostgreSQL store (postgres.NewStore), which shares lessons with .NET and Python agents on the same database.

What it does

  • Capture and finalize. StartRun returns a RunCapture that sanitizes a run as it is recorded: secret-named fields are redacted, argument values are kept only when allowlisted, a number a double cannot hold finitely is refused, and the default limits apply. Finalize aggregates the host's verification, writes the deterministic lesson for a verified run, and returns the stored record (Validated, or Quarantined without a lesson) and its initial lifecycle event. The IDs are derived, so a retry derives the same ones.

  • The stored form. ExperienceRecord.ToStored and FromStored write and read the record exactly as the contract's schema describes it. Tool-call arguments are an *Object (members in order) whose numbers are json.Number, kept exactly as written: DecodeJSON never decodes a number into a float64. ReadNumber reads one the way .NET does (an integer that fits in 64 bits as an int64, anything else as a float64).

  • The injected block. RenderBlock turns ranked records into the Historical Reference block, byte for byte as the .NET adapter writes it, in the compact or verbose layout, within the record and byte limits, with record text neutralized.

  • The task text. DeriveTaskText derives the text retrieval searches with from an invocation's messages.

  • The error class. ErrorClass reduces a captured error to its short class.

  • Search and ranking. SearchParameters and AuthorizationBounds are the contract statements' parameters; Rank applies the contract's safety checks, truncation and ranking to the rows a search returns.

  • Semantic retrieval (contract 1.6). Embedder is your embedding object; RetrievalSummary, RecordSummary and ContentHash are what is embedded and how it is hashed; EmbeddingWrite and VectorQuery validate before any statement; MergeChannels and RankHybrid turn the text and vector candidates into one ranked list (Rank itself is unchanged, and ranks every merged candidate, up to 100).

  • The lessons view (contract 1.7). NewLessons over any LessonsReader, Lessons.List and ListFor, RenderAlone; see See what it learned.

  • PostgreSQL (the postgres package). Store writes a finalized record and its initial event as the application role, reads records back, runs the contract's text search, records injections (RecordInjection, contract 1.4) and holdout assignments (RecordHoldoutAssignment, contract 1.8), writes and searches embeddings (WriteEmbedding and SearchVectors, contract 1.6) and reads the lessons view's page (ListLessonRecords, contract 1.7), every transaction first declaring its bounds. The contract's statement files are embedded and run as written (a test keeps the copies in postgres/sql/ identical to contract/sql/); only their @name placeholders are numbered for the driver. The store needs a schema the .NET migrator applied, with row-level security on; it never creates or alters a schema object. The application role's privileges are the .NET privileges call's, or the contract's two files, in this order: sql/application-role-privileges.sql, then sql/application-role-privileges-1.4.sql (without the second, every injection is still made and its record is reported NotRecorded), then sql/application-role-privileges-1.6.sql and sql/application-role-privileges-1.8.sql (without the last, the holdout still withholds and each assignment is reported NotRecorded). Search skips a sealed row (payload_version 2), and Get answers ErrSealed for one (and nil, nil for none).

    • Connections are the host's. NewStore takes anything that begins a transaction: a *pgxpool.Pool, a *pgx.Conn or a pgx.Tx, each connecting as the application role. Open is the convenience that builds a pool from a connection string (close it with Close). Each operation is one transaction. The store is safe for concurrent use exactly when its source is: a pool is, a single connection or transaction is not.
  • The in-memory store (the inmemory package): the same writes, reads and text search in memory, for development and tests, with the .NET in-memory store's search (words normalized to Unicode form KC and lower-cased as .NET's invariant culture lowers them, terms of at least two characters, the English stopwords PostgreSQL drops, the 3/1/1 field weights; a test pins the cases where Go's own lowering differs, and 20,000 random strings gave the .NET store's terms), honouring scope and bounds. It copies every record it is given and returns, so a caller never shares one with it, and honours a done context. Both stores are an ae.Store.

  • Verification and identity for an agent integration. The verifiers, the tool-result classifiers, the Identity an invocation runs under and DevelopmentIdentity (see the quick start), in the core, so they need no Agent Framework type.

It does nothing outside contract 1.x: no grants, crypto-shredding or provenance signing, and no lifecycle after finalization. It writes no logs at all, so no record content is ever logged.

example_test.go captures a run, finalizes it and renders the block; go test runs it and checks its output. In short:

capture, _ := ae.StartRun(ae.CapturedRun{RunID: runID, TaskID: "refund-stuck-pending", Scope: scope,
	Environment: environment, Provenance: provenance, StartedAt: start},
	ae.SanitizationAllowing("strategy"), ae.DefaultCaptureLimits())
outcome, _ := capture.AppendAttempt(attempt) // Recorded, SanitizationRejected, CapacityExceeded, ...
_, _ = capture.Complete(ae.RunCompleted, end)
run := capture.Run()

finalized, _ := ae.Finalize(run, ae.Verification{ClosedRound: &round, RequiredChecks: checks, Evidence: evidence,
	CurrentArtifactRevision: "rev-1", FinalizedAt: now})

pool, _ := pgxpool.New(ctx, os.Getenv("AGENTEXPERIENCE_CONNSTRING")) // as the application role
store, _ := postgres.NewStore(pool)
bounds := ae.BoundsOf(scope)
_ = store.InsertFinalized(ctx, bounds, &finalized, "host-principal", nil)
rows, _ := store.Search(ctx, bounds, ae.NewSearchParameters(scope, "refund ticket stuck in pending"))
ranked, _ := ae.Rank(rows, scope, ae.Now(), nil, false)
block, _ := ae.RenderBlock(ranked.Ranked, ae.BlockOptions{})

Where Go differs from .NET, and what the port does

Every rule is .NET's, and Go's standard library differs from .NET in places (contract 1.1 pins most of them):

  • UTF-16. A Go string is UTF-8; every length, cut and limit is counted in UTF-16 code units (UTF16Len, UTF16Prefix), and a cut never splits a surrogate pair. Ordinal order is UTF-16 order, not byte order.
  • Lone surrogates. A Go string cannot hold one. JSON decoding turns one into U+FFFD, which is exactly what .NET's UTF-8 encoding writes for it in a derived ID, so the encoding fixture's UTF-16 arrays decode with unicode/utf16.
  • Whitespace, words and case. Go's regexp \s is ASCII only (no \v, U+0085 or Unicode spaces), its \b knows only ASCII words, and strings.EqualFold, unicode.ToUpper and regexp's (?i) fold the long s, the Kelvin sign or the dotless i to ASCII letters. The port uses .NET's char.IsWhiteSpace, \b word characters and ordinal-ignore-case rules instead (U+001C to U+001F are not whitespace, U+0085 is).
  • The error class is a .NET regular expression with a Unicode \b, which Go's regexp (RE2) cannot express. A small backtracking matcher with .NET's leftmost-first priority runs the same pattern, linear in the input.
  • Numbers. .NET's round-trip (1E+20, -0) and fixed (0.00, 15 significant digits, half away from zero) formats are reproduced; a real relevance is widened from float32 exactly.
  • Instants and durations are 100-nanosecond ticks with .NET's range checks, not time.Time: every way of making an instant (parsing, InstantFromTicks, InstantFromTime, Add) refuses one outside 0001-01-01 to 9999-12-31T23:59:59.9999999 UTC.
  • Text Go cannot hold. .NET text is UTF-16, and its only text a Go string cannot hold is a lone surrogate, which reaches Go as invalid UTF-8 (WTF-8 writes one as three bytes). The task text drops each invalid byte, as .NET drops a lone surrogate; a real U+FFFD is kept.
  • The Unicode version. Character classes (whitespace, word characters, control and format characters, marks) come from the unicode package of the Go toolchain that builds the program: Unicode 15.0.0 for Go 1.24 and 1.25, 17.0.0 for Go 1.27 (unicode.Version). .NET's tables follow its own runtime's Unicode version, so a character assigned or given another category between the two versions can be classified differently: kept by one and neutralized by the other in a block or a task text, or a word character to one error class and not the other. Every character the contract's fixtures use is classified the same in all of them, and CI runs the fixtures on Go 1.24 and the latest stable.

What the Go port does not do yet

The port covers contract 1.0 to 1.8: capture, finalize, store, text and semantic retrieval, the injected block, injection recording, the lessons view, the injection holdout and telemetry. These .NET features have no counterpart here, so a mixed .NET and Go deployment should keep them on the .NET side:

  • Lifecycle after finalization: reuse feedback, confidence reinforcement, contest and revocation.
  • Sharing: grants, and so the grant-disclosure choices.
  • Performing erasure and crypto-shredding (the port never reads an erased record, contract 1.5) (Go also has no at-rest encryption), and provenance signing (so no Expired or ContentUnconfirmed lesson state).
  • Migrations: the port never creates or alters a schema object; the .NET migrator does.
  • Lessons view HTML and endpoint mapping.
  • Benefit estimation and acting on it, measuring another memory provider, exporting lessons and recording the run's model: the port withholds and records the holdout, and the .NET estimate reads its rows.

What the port does write or read follows the same contract the .NET library is tested against.

Running the tests

From this directory (the core module), and from postgres/, inmemory/ and maf/ (the other modules):

gofmt -l . && go vet ./... && go test -race ./...

In the core, go test ./... runs the unit tests and the conformance runner (contract_test.go), which loads every fixture family from ../contract/fixtures and compares this package's output exactly: blocks and task text byte for byte, JSON by value, with a number written as an integer never equal to one written with a fraction or an exponent. It checks every contract file against contract/lock.json, and fails with a clear message if the lock names a contract version this package does not support (1.0 to 1.8 are). The verifier and classifier tests port the cases of .NET's and Python's. In postgres/, go test ./... validates every record of the fixtures, and every record the core writes for a finalize fixture, against the contract's JSON Schema (there, because it needs a validator and the core module requires none). The schema's patterns are ECMA-262 regular expressions and the validator (jsonschema v6) evaluates them with Go's RE2: the two agree on every construct the schema uses except \s, so the schema's one [^\s] is translated into ECMA-262's whitespace class, and any other \s, \S or multiline flag fails the test until it is translated too.

In maf/, go test ./... drives a real agent.Agent built by agent.New with a scripted provider and the SDK's own automatic tool invocation (capture, classification, verification, storage, injection, failures, sessions, streaming, cancellation, parallel calls), runs the quick start and compares its output (AGENTEXPERIENCE_QUICKSTART_GOLDEN_UPDATE=1 rewrites it on purpose), and runs the cross-language proof:

  • Go writes, .NET reads. A Go agent on a fixed clock and fixed identifiers stores two runs, and the records must be exactly maf/testdata/cross-language/go-agent-records.json (checked in memory and against the schema, and read back from PostgreSQL in the PostgreSQL leg). In the PostgreSQL leg the rows the Go store wrote, every column it writes in PostgreSQL's own text form, must be exactly go-agent-rows.json. The .NET contract tests' GoAgentRecordsPostgresRoundTripTests insert those raw rows into a schema the .NET migrator applied, each value cast from its text by PostgreSQL, read every record back through the .NET PostgreSQL store (it must be go-agent-records.json), check each initial event is the one .NET finalization derives, compare every column with what the .NET store writes for the same record, read the injection the second run recorded through the .NET lessons view and compare its row with what the .NET store records for it, and find the Go agent's lessons through the .NET retrieval. AGENTEXPERIENCE_CROSS_LANGUAGE_UPDATE=1 rewrites both files on purpose (the rows in the PostgreSQL leg).
  • .NET writes, Go reads. The records the .NET library finalized for the contract's finalize fixtures (generated from .NET and checked against it on every build) are written into PostgreSQL, and a Go agent on their scope is injected with the one its task matches; a quarantined one never, and another agent's scope none. No .NET process runs at test time: the fixtures are the .NET-written records.
  • The holdout, Go writes, .NET estimates (contract 1.8, PostgreSQL leg). A Go agent with the holdout at rate 0.5 learns a lesson, then runs eight measured runs (three held out, five treated, some verified and some failed); the rows it wrote (records, initial events and holdout assignments) must be exactly go-agent-holdout-rows.json, each measured run's rows in the arm ae.AssignHoldout gives it. The .NET contract tests insert them, with the Python agent's, into one database and run the .NET benefit estimate over the scope.

PostgreSQL (the postgres build tag, in postgres/pgtest/ and maf/, Go 1.26): in postgres/pgtest/, each finalize fixture is written through the Go store and read back row for row, every search fixture is run and ranked, every record-injection and holdout-record fixture is run (the late-write guard's race staged as the contract says), every embedding-write and vector-search fixture is run, and sealed rows, tombstones, the exact scope, row-level security, recorded_at and concurrent use on a pool are checked; in maf/, the cross-language tests run. Both use the server helper the pgtest package is (its roles are made under an advisory lock, so test binaries may share one server). Each test database (dropped when its test ends) is migrated with the .NET migrator's own scripts from src/AgentExperience.Storage.Postgres/Migrations, in order, and given the application role's privileges from the contract's sql/application-role-privileges.sql then sql/application-role-privileges-1.4.sql, sql/application-role-privileges-1.6.sql and sql/application-role-privileges-1.8.sql; from contract 1.6 the vectors package's migrations (src/AgentExperience.Storage.Postgres.Vectors/Migrations) follow, after a superuser ran CREATE EXTENSION vector. The server is a testcontainers-go pgvector/pgvector container (AGENTEXPERIENCE_POSTGRES_MAJOR, 16 by default), or the server PGHOST, PGPORT, PGUSER and PGPASSWORD name (a superuser, with the pgvector extension available). With neither the tests skip, unless AGENTEXPERIENCE_REQUIRE_POSTGRES=1, when they fail. On a Mac with Rancher Desktop or Colima, testcontainers-go may need:

cd maf && TESTCONTAINERS_DOCKER_SOCKET_OVERRIDE=/var/run/docker.sock TESTCONTAINERS_RYUK_DISABLED=true go test -race -tags postgres ./...

CI runs the go job for the core on Go 1.24, the core and both stores on Go 1.25 (the store's unit tests), and every module on Go 1.26 and the latest stable Go (go mod tidy leaves each module unchanged, gofmt, go vet, staticcheck and govulncheck on Go 1.26, and the tests with the race detector), and the PostgreSQL and cross-language tests, also with the race detector, on PostgreSQL 16 and 18. To run a PostgreSQL leg as CI does, set AGENTEXPERIENCE_POSTGRES_MAJOR (16 or 18) and AGENTEXPERIENCE_REQUIRE_POSTGRES=1, and run go test -race -tags postgres ./... in postgres/pgtest/ and in maf/.

Documentation

Overview

Package agentexperience is a Go core of AgentExperience that implements the AgentExperience.NET language-neutral contract 1.8 (the repository's contract directory).

Pre-release. It finalizes a captured run into a stored Experience Record, renders the injected Historical Reference block, derives the task text, classifies errors, and computes the text-search parameters and the ranking. For an agent integration it also has the verifiers, the tool-result classifiers and the identity an invocation runs under. The postgres subpackage writes records to and searches them in a PostgreSQL schema the .NET migrator applied, the inmemory subpackage does the same in memory, and the maf subpackage wires all of it into Microsoft Agent Framework for Go; each is its own module, so this one requires no module at all and has no Microsoft Agent Framework dependency.

The lessons view (contract 1.7, Lessons) lists, read-only and in the caller's own scope, what has been learned: each lesson's status, confidence and checks, the block text an agent would be shown for it (RenderAlone), why retrieval would not use it when it would not (Status, BelowConfidenceFloor, ModelAuthored, OverByteBudget or Unrenderable; the .NET Expired and ContentUnconfirmed do not exist here, which has no maximum-age policy and no provenance signing), and when it was last injected. It renders no HTML.

The injection holdout (contract 1.8, AssignHoldout) assigns a captured run to the arm .NET would, so a Go agent withholds the block on the same share of runs and records the rows the .NET benefit estimate reads.

The contract is generated from .NET, where a string is UTF-16: every length, cut and limit here is counted in UTF-16 code units, never in bytes or runes. Whitespace, word characters and ignoring case are .NET's, not Go's (Go's regexp \s is ASCII only and its \b is ASCII words, and strings.EqualFold and regexp's (?i) fold the long s and the Kelvin sign to ASCII letters). JSON numbers in tool-call arguments are kept exactly as written.

Nothing here logs: no record content leaves the package except through the values it returns.

Functions

func ClassifyError

func ClassifyError(err error) string

ClassifyError is the error.class of a failed operation, as .NET classifies: the caller's own cancellation is Cancelled, a deadline or timeout is Timeout, a network, file-system or database-driver failure is Infrastructure, and anything else Unexpected.

func ContentHash

func ContentHash(modelID, summary string) string

ContentHash is the lowercase hex SHA-256 of the UTF-8 bytes of the model ID, U+001F and the summary; text that is not valid (a lone surrogate) is encoded as U+FFFD, as .NET encodes it.

func DecodeJSON

func DecodeJSON(data []byte) (any, error)

DecodeJSON reads one JSON value, keeping every number exactly as written (json.Number) and every object's member order. It refuses trailing data, and an object that names a member twice (as .NET's JsonObject does).

func DefaultSecretFieldNames

func DefaultSecretFieldNames() []string

DefaultSecretFieldNames are the default secret names, matched ignoring case ordinally (a new slice each call).

func DeriveTaskText

func DeriveTaskText(messages []Message, maxLength, followUpThreshold int) (string, bool, error)

DeriveTaskText is the task text, or false when no message qualifies.

Example
package main

import (
	"fmt"

	ae "github.com/fabbrik/AgentExperience.NET/go"
)

func main() {
	text := func(s string) []ae.MessagePart { return []ae.MessagePart{{Type: "text", Text: &s}} }
	messages := []ae.Message{
		{Role: "user", Contents: text("Deploy service X to prod")},
		{Role: "user", Contents: text("and retry")},
	}
	taskText, ok, err := ae.DeriveTaskText(messages, ae.DefaultTaskTextMaxLength, ae.FollowUpThreshold)
	fmt.Println(taskText, ok, err)
}
Output:
Deploy service X to prod — and retry true <nil>

func EnsureDevelopmentEnvironment

func EnsureDevelopmentEnvironment(name *string) error

EnsureDevelopmentEnvironment is an error wrapping ErrDevelopmentOnly outside a development or test environment.

func EnvironmentCompatibility

func EnvironmentCompatibility(metadata, preferred map[string]string) float64

EnvironmentCompatibility is the share of preferred attributes the record's metadata matches exactly; 1 with none preferred.

func ErrorClass

func ErrorClass(err *string) string

ErrorClass is the class of an error; Unclassified for a blank one or one with no recognised token. Only the first 8,192 UTF-16 code units are scanned.

func ErrorClassOf

func ErrorClassOf(err string) string

ErrorClassOf is ErrorClass of a present error.

Example
package main

import (
	"fmt"

	ae "github.com/fabbrik/AgentExperience.NET/go"
)

func main() {
	fmt.Println(ae.ErrorClassOf("System.TimeoutException: The operation has timed out."))
	fmt.Println(ae.ErrorClassOf("curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 503; exit code 22"))
}
Output:
TimeoutException
exit 22

func ErrorClasses

func ErrorClasses() []string

ErrorClasses are the four error.class values.

func FirstToken

func FirstToken(class string) string

FirstToken is the first token of a class: what a call's "[failed: ...]" marker shows.

func HoldoutFraction

func HoldoutFraction(runID UUID, salt string) float64

HoldoutFraction is a run's position in [0, 1]: SHA-256 over the run ID's 16 bytes in RFC 4122 order followed by the salt's UTF-8 bytes; the digest's first 8 bytes, read as a big-endian unsigned integer, divided by 2^64 as a double. Pure.

func IsDevelopmentEnvironment

func IsDevelopmentEnvironment(name *string) bool

IsDevelopmentEnvironment reports whether the process runs in a development or test environment. A non-nil name is the host's own environment name (like .NET's host environment) and is checked alone; otherwise EnvironmentVariables are read in order, and with none set it is allowed.

func IsModelAuthored

func IsModelAuthored(reflection *Reflection) bool

IsModelAuthored reports whether a reflection was written by a model: any authorship but Deterministic, or the library's own model-backed reflector.

func IsNullOrWhiteSpace

func IsNullOrWhiteSpace(s string) bool

IsNullOrWhiteSpace is .NET's string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace: true when every character is .NET whitespace (U+0085 is; U+001C to U+001F are not).

func IsSingleToken

func IsSingleToken(value string) bool

IsSingleToken reports whether value is exactly one token: the first token ErrorClass finds in it is all of it, in its normalized form ("exit 3", not "Exit 3" or "exit code 3"), at most 40 characters. Such a value is its own class's first token, so a "Tried:" line's call marker shows it unchanged.

func MarshalJSONValue

func MarshalJSONValue(value any) ([]byte, error)

MarshalJSONValue writes a JSON value. Besides the decoded forms it accepts Go's own: a map with string keys (its members in ordinal order of their names), a slice or array, an integer, and a finite float (written as .NET writes a double, in its shortest round-trip form), and a nil *Object as null. NaN and the infinities cannot be written, and neither can a value nested deeper than MaxJSONDepth (which a cycle always is).

func ObservedAttributes

func ObservedAttributes() []string

ObservedAttributes are the span attributes this port sets beyond the common ones, sorted.

func ObservedOperations

func ObservedOperations() map[string]OperationSpec

ObservedOperations is every operation this port reports, by its operation value. The port reports no other: not retention.sweep, delete, grants, seal, backfill, lifecycle, confidence, reuse-feedback, deindex or reindex. A new map is returned each time.

func Ptr

func Ptr(s string) *string

Ptr is a pointer to s, for the optional fields.

func ReadEnvironmentName

func ReadEnvironmentName() (name, variable string, ok bool)

ReadEnvironmentName is the environment's name and the variable it was read from: AGENTEXPERIENCE_ENVIRONMENT, else .NET's variables; ok is false with none set.

func ReadNumber

func ReadNumber(n json.Number) (any, error)

ReadNumber reads a JSON number as the .NET reader reads a tool-call argument: an integer literal that fits in a 64-bit integer as that int64, and any other number as a float64. A number beyond a double's range is an error (.NET reads it as an infinity it cannot write again). -0 reads as the integer 0.

func RecordSummary

func RecordSummary(record *ExperienceRecord) string

RecordSummary is RetrievalSummary of a record.

func ReduceName

func ReduceName(name string) (reduced string, ok bool)

ReduceName reduces a name the host did not choose as an identifier (an agent's name, the program's name) to one: lower case, ASCII letters, digits, '.' and '_' kept, every run of other characters (dashes included) one '-', no separator at either end, at most 100 characters, never fusing two words at the cut. ok is false when nothing is kept.

func RelevanceOf

func RelevanceOf(distance float64) float64

RelevanceOf is clamp(1 - distance / 2, 0, 1), and 0 for NaN.

func RenderAlone

func RenderAlone(record *ExperienceRecord, options BlockOptions) (string, error)

RenderAlone is the Historical Reference block for one record alone, as the lessons view shows it: numbered 1, with no ranking (a compact "Matched:" line reads "no ranking data"; a verbose record's score is unavailable and its components none) and no record or byte limit, whatever the record's status and size. Its bytes are .NET's (ExperienceContextProvider.RenderAlone). The options are validated, MaxRecords and MaxBytes aside, which it ignores. It may panic on a record it cannot render; the lessons view recovers.

func RetrievalSummary

func RetrievalSummary(taskID, taskSummary, lesson *string) string

RetrievalSummary is the only text of a record that is embedded: its task ID, task summary and lesson (a nil field contributes nothing), each with every run of separators (Unicode categories Cc, Zs, Zl and Zp, such as controls, spaces and line separators; format characters are kept) as one space, joined by one space, and at most MaxSummaryLength UTF-16 code units: cut there, a high surrogate left last dropped too (so a pair is never split), then trailing spaces dropped. The result is valid UTF-8 (a lone surrogate is U+FFFD).

func SetObserver

func SetObserver(observer Observer)

SetObserver registers the observer every operation reports to, or nil to stop reporting.

func SortLessonRecords

func SortLessonRecords(records []LessonRecord)

SortLessonRecords orders records newest first, as the contract's lessons statements do: created_at descending (to whole microseconds, as a stored instant is), then experience ID ascending, ordinally on its lower-case hyphenated text.

func UTF16Len

func UTF16Len(s string) int

UTF16Len is the length of s in UTF-16 code units, as .NET's string.Length counts it.

func UTF16Prefix

func UTF16Prefix(s string, units int) string

UTF16Prefix is the longest prefix of s that fits in units UTF-16 code units without splitting a surrogate pair: .NET's text[..cut] after "if (char.IsHighSurrogate(text[cut - 1])) cut--".

func ValidateLessonsRead

func ValidateLessonsRead(statuses []ExperienceStatus, limit int) error

ValidateLessonsRead refuses what a LessonsReader refuses: a limit outside 1 to LessonsMaxLimit, and statuses that are empty or hold an undefined one.

func ValidateModelID

func ValidateModelID(modelID string) error

ValidateModelID refuses a blank model ID, and one longer than MaxModelIDLength UTF-16 code units.

func ValidateVector

func ValidateVector(vector []float32, dimension int) error

ValidateVector refuses a vector that does not have 1 to MaxDimension finite components, and, when dimension is positive, exactly that many.

func VectorLiteral

func VectorLiteral(vector []float32) string

VectorLiteral is a pgvector literal, [x,y,...], each component its shortest round-trip text.

func WidenReal

func WidenReal(value float64) float64

WidenReal is a real (float4) column as the double ranking uses: the float4 value widened exactly (0.6 is 0.6000000238418579). A double read from the column's shortest decimal text rounds to the same float4, so this recovers that float4 and widens it without rounding through decimal text.

Types

type AppendOutcome

type AppendOutcome string

AppendOutcome is capture's answer to an attempt.

const (
	OutcomeRecorded             AppendOutcome = "Recorded"
	OutcomeDuplicateNoOp        AppendOutcome = "DuplicateNoOp"

type ApprovalDecision

type ApprovalDecision struct {
	ApproverID string
	Approved   bool

	ProjectID     *string
	TeamID        *string
	AgentID       *string
	UserID        *string
}

AuthorizationBounds are the host's authorization bounds, which every transaction declares first: the tenant always, and each other field bound to a value or (nil) unbounded. Never a request's scope.

func BoundsOf

func BoundsOf(scope Scope) AuthorizationBounds

BoundsOf are bounds equal to a scope: its unset optional fields are left unbounded.

func (AuthorizationBounds) Parameters

	// Rendering is Compact when empty.
	Rendering Rendering
	// FailureDetail is ErrorClass when empty.
	FailureDetail FailureDetail
	// MaxRecords is DefaultMaxRecords when 0.

	// MaxBytes is DefaultMaxBytes when 0.
	MaxBytes int
	// ApproachArguments maps a tool name to the argument keys whose stored values its "Tried:" lines may show.

MustParseDuration is ParseDuration for a constant known to be valid; it panics otherwise.

func ParseDuration

func ParseDuration(text string) (Duration, error)

type Embedder

type Embedder interface {
	ModelID() string
	Dimension() int
	Embed(ctx context.Context, text string) ([]float32, error)
}

Embedder turns text into a vector: the caller's object, registered with the agent integration's Options.Embedder. ModelID and Dimension are known without calling the provider; the vector Embed returns has exactly Dimension finite components. Embeddings of different models or dimensions are never compared. Embed should honour ctx: the integration cancels it when the vector channel's timeout passes, but never waits for a call that does not return.

type EmbeddingIndex

type EmbeddingIndex interface {
	// WriteEmbedding stores a record's embedding, only for a record live in exactly the write's scope and still at
	// exactly its source revision: Written; Stale (with the record's revision) when it moved on, or a newer
	// embedding is stored; Missing for an unknown, other-scope or erased record. A write that fails Validate is an
	// error and runs nothing.
	WriteEmbedding(ctx context.Context, bounds AuthorizationBounds, write EmbeddingWrite) (EmbeddingWriteResult, error)
	// SearchVectors runs the nearest-neighbour search and returns its hits nearest first (ties by experience ID,
	// NaN last). A query that fails Validate is an error and runs nothing.
	SearchVectors(ctx context.Context, bounds AuthorizationBounds, query VectorQuery) (VectorSearchResult, error)
}

EmbeddingIndex is a Store that keeps embeddings and searches them by cosine distance (contract 1.6), for semantic retrieval. Optional: the agent integration runs the vector channel only through a store that is one, and reports NotConfigured for one that is not. The PostgreSQL store (with pgvector) and the in-memory store both are.

type EmbeddingWrite

type EmbeddingWrite struct {
	ExperienceID   UUID
	Scope          Scope
	ModelID        string
	Dimension      int
	ContentHash    string
	SourceRevision int64
	Vector         []float32
	// Now is the writer's clock, which becomes created_at and updated_at.
	Now Instant
}

EmbeddingWrite is one record's embedding to store: the record (its ID, exact scope and the revision the summary was read at) and what the embedding is.

func (EmbeddingWrite) Validate

func (w EmbeddingWrite) Validate() error

Validate refuses a write contract 1.6 refuses: a blank or overlong model ID, a dimension outside 1 to MaxDimension, a vector that is not Dimension finite components, a blank content hash, a negative revision.

type EmbeddingWriteOutcome

type EmbeddingWriteOutcome string

EmbeddingWriteOutcome is how a write ended.

const (
	// EmbeddingWritten: the row now holds this vector and descriptor.
	EmbeddingWritten EmbeddingWriteOutcome = "Written"
	// EmbeddingStale: the record moved on since the summary was read (or a newer embedding is stored); nothing changed.
	EmbeddingStale EmbeddingWriteOutcome = "Stale"
	// EmbeddingMissing: an unknown, other-scope or erased record; nothing was created.
	EmbeddingMissing EmbeddingWriteOutcome = "Missing"
)

	// ClosedRoundID is the closed verification round, when the record was finalized with one.
	ClosedRoundID *UUID
	// Origin is HostWritten when empty.
	Origin Origin
	// ProvenanceSignature is outside contract 1.x: a record read with one carries it unchanged, and a port writes
	// none.
	ProvenanceSignature any
}

ExperienceRecord is one stored Experience Record.

func FromColumns

func FromColumns(columnsValue any, payloadValue any) (record ExperienceRecord, err error)

FromColumns reads a record from its columns, as the contract's JSON writes them, and its payload. Every number in a tool call's arguments is kept as written; one beyond a double's range is refused (.NET reads it as an infinity it cannot write again).

func FromStored

type FinalizedExperience

type FinalizedExperience struct {
	Record     ExperienceRecord
	Event      InitialLifecycleEvent

	// never holds record content.
	ScreeningRefusal error
}

FinalizedExperience is a finalized record, in its final state at revision 1, and the initial event that must be written with it.

func Finalize

func Finalize(run CapturedRun, verification Verification) (FinalizedExperience, error)

Finalize finalizes a finished run: verification, the deterministic reflection (only for a Verified run), the stored record (Validated with a reflection, else Quarantined) and its initial lifecycle event.

Example

Capture a run, finalize it against the host's verification, and render the block a later run would be shown. Storing and searching it needs the postgres package and a schema the .NET migrator applied.

FinalizeContext is Finalize reporting to the observer (SetObserver) under ctx. Its verification and reflection are reported as nested operations of its own.

type HoldoutArm

type HoldoutArm string

HoldoutArm is which arm of the injection holdout a captured run was assigned to.

const (
	// HoldoutTreatment is a run whose block was injected as usual.
	HoldoutTreatment HoldoutArm = "Treatment"
	// HoldoutWithheld is a run whose block was built and then withheld (the arm .NET names Holdout).
	HoldoutWithheld HoldoutArm = "Holdout"
)

func AssignHoldout

func AssignHoldout(runID UUID, salt string, rate float64) HoldoutArm

AssignHoldout is a run's arm at rate: HoldoutWithheld when the rate is at least 1, or the run's fraction is strictly below the rate; HoldoutTreatment otherwise (always, at rate 0). Pure: the same run, salt and rate always give the same arm.

type HoldoutAssignment

type HoldoutAssignment struct {
	RunID      UUID
	Arm        HoldoutArm
	Records    []RunExposure
	AssignedAt Instant
}

HoldoutAssignment is one captured run's assignment, as a HoldoutRecorder records it: the run, its arm, the records its block named (each at the revision it was rendered from: what was delivered, or would have been), and when the arm was decided. IDs and revisions only, never content.

type HoldoutRecorder

type HoldoutRecorder interface {
	// RecordHoldoutAssignment records a run's assignment in scope, within bounds: one row per named record live in
	// exactly scope, at the revision named; a row already there for the run and record is kept as it is; the instant,
	// truncated to whole microseconds, is clamped to the store's clock; nothing is written for a run whose own records
	// are all erased. At most MaxRecordInjectionIDs records.
	RecordHoldoutAssignment(ctx context.Context, bounds AuthorizationBounds, scope Scope,
		assignment HoldoutAssignment) error
}

HoldoutRecorder is a Store that records holdout assignments (contract 1.8), for the .NET benefit estimate. Optional: the agent integration records an assignment only through a store that is one, and reports NotTracked for one that is not. The PostgreSQL store and the in-memory store both are.

type Identity

type Identity struct {
	Principal string
	Scope     Scope
	// Bounds are BoundsOf(Scope) when nil.
	Bounds *AuthorizationBounds
	// contains filtered or unexported fields
}

Identity is who an invocation runs under: the principal it is authorized as, the scope experience is read from and stored under, and the authorization bounds every store transaction declares (by default, bounds equal to the scope). It must come from the host's own authentication, never from model output.

func DevelopmentIdentity

func DevelopmentIdentity(options DevelopmentOptions) (Identity, error)

DevelopmentIdentity is one fixed local identity, for development and tests only: tenant "local" (or options.Tenant), principal "local-developer", and the application and project named after options.Application, else the program's file name, else "app". Outside a development or test environment it is an error wrapping ErrDevelopmentOnly.

func (Identity) Authorization

Authorization is the bounds every transaction declares: Bounds, else bounds equal to the scope.

func (Identity) IsDevelopment

func (i Identity) IsDevelopment() bool

IsDevelopment reports whether this is a development identity (made by DevelopmentIdentity).

func (Identity) Validate

func (i Identity) Validate() error

Validate refuses a blank principal, tenant, application or project, and a development identity outside a development or test environment (checked against the host environment name it was made with, else the variables, now).

type InitialLifecycleEvent

type InitialLifecycleEvent struct {
	EventID          UUID
	ExperienceID     UUID
	PriorStatus      ExperienceStatus
	CurrentStatus    ExperienceStatus

	Producer         string
	OccurredAt       Instant
	ExpectedRevision int64
	AppliedRevision  int64
}

InitialLifecycleEvent is the event that moves a new record from Candidate to its status, taking it to revision 1. The store adds the record's scope columns, the actor and its own recorded_at.

func (*InitialLifecycleEvent) ToJSON

func (e *InitialLifecycleEvent) ToJSON() *Object

ToJSON is the event columns finalization decides, as expected-event.json holds them.

type InjectionRecorder

type InjectionRecorder interface {
	// RecordInjection records that experienceIDs (at most MaxRecordInjectionIDs) were injected in scope at
	// injectedAt, within bounds: only a record live in exactly scope counts; the instant, truncated to whole
	// microseconds, is clamped to the store's clock and only moves forward; the count rises by one and saturates.
	RecordInjection(ctx context.Context, bounds AuthorizationBounds, scope Scope, experienceIDs []UUID,
		injectedAt Instant) error
}

InjectionRecorder is a Store that records when each record was injected (contract 1.4), for the .NET lessons view's "last injected". Optional: the agent integration records an injection only through a store that is one, and reports NotTracked for one that is not. The PostgreSQL store and the in-memory store both are.

type InjectionSummary

type InjectionSummary struct {
	LastInjectedAt Instant
	InjectionCount int64
}

InjectionSummary is when a record was last injected in its own scope, and how many injected blocks delivered it.

type Instant

type Instant struct {
	// contains filtered or unexported fields
}

Instant is a point in time in UTC with .NET's precision: whole 100-nanosecond ticks since 0001-01-01T00:00:00Z. Payload instants keep up to seven fractional digits.

func InstantFromTicks

func InstantFromTicks(ticks int64) (Instant, error)

InstantFromTicks is the instant ticks 100-nanosecond intervals after 0001-01-01T00:00:00Z. Like every way of making an instant, it refuses one outside the range of a .NET DateTimeOffset in UTC (0001-01-01 to 9999-12-31T23:59:59.9999999).

func InstantFromTime

func InstantFromTime(t time.Time) (Instant, error)

func MustParseInstant

func MustParseInstant(text string) Instant

MustParseInstant is ParseInstant for a constant known to be valid; it panics otherwise.

func Now

func Now() Instant

Now is the current time from the system clock.

func ParseInstant

func ParseInstant(text string) (Instant, error)

ParseInstant reads an ISO 8601 instant with an offset (+00:00 or any other, or Z), normalized to UTC, the way .NET's System.Text.Json reads one: hour 24, a minute or second of 60, an offset beyond ±14:00 or with minutes of 60 or more, a date that does not exist, a lower-case t or z and an unpadded field are refused; more than seven fractional digits are cut to seven.

func (Instant) Add

func (i Instant) Add(d Duration) (Instant, error)

Add is the instant d later (earlier for a negative d); a result outside the range of a .NET DateTimeOffset is refused.

func (Instant) Before

func (i Instant) Before(other Instant) bool

Before reports whether i is before other.

func (Instant) IsZero

func (i Instant) IsZero() bool

func (Instant) Sub

func (i Instant) Sub(other Instant) Duration

Sub is the duration from other to i.

func (Instant) Ticks

Time is the instant as a UTC time.Time.

func (Instant) TruncateToMicroseconds

func (i Instant) TruncateToMicroseconds() Instant

TruncateToMicroseconds is the instant in whole microseconds, truncated, never rounded: what a timestamptz column keeps.

	CreatedAt  Instant
	UpdatedAt  Instant
	// Checks are the checks its outcome was verified by, in stored order (empty when it holds no evidence).
	Checks []LessonCheck
	// BlockText is the Historical Reference block an agent in this scope would be shown for this record alone (RenderAlone):
	// numbered 1, with no ranking, whatever its status and size. Empty when it could not be rendered. Untrusted text.
	BlockText string
	// IsEligible is whether retrieval would currently consider it, setting the task aside, and its block fits the budget.
	IsEligible bool
	// Ineligibility and IneligibleReason say why not, as a code and in words; empty when eligible.
	Ineligibility    LessonIneligibility
	IneligibleReason string
	// LastInjectedAt is when an agent in this scope was last shown this lesson; nil when never (the page's
	// InjectionsTracked is then true) or not known (it is false).
	LastInjectedAt *Instant
	// InjectionCount is how many injected blocks delivered it in this scope; 0 when never or not tracked.
	InjectionCount int64
}

Lesson is one stored lesson, as the lessons view shows it.

type LessonCheck

	CheckID      string
	EvidenceKind string
	Result       CheckResult
}

LessonCheck is one check a lesson's outcome was verified by: never the evidence's detail.

type LessonIneligibility

type LessonIneligibility string

LessonIneligibility is why retrieval would not currently use a lesson. A port decides these five; .NET's Expired (a retrieval policy's maximum age) and ContentUnconfirmed (provenance signing) do not exist here, because this port has neither a maximum-age policy nor provenance signing, and are never answered.

const (
	// IneligibleStatus is a status that is not Validated or Reinforced.
	IneligibleStatus LessonIneligibility = "Status"
	// IneligibleBelowConfidenceFloor is a confidence below the retrieval minimum (DefaultMinConfidence), or NaN.

	// Statuses are the statuses to list; nil lists every status. When set: at least one, each a defined status (a
	// repeated one counts once).
	Statuses []ExperienceStatus
	// Limit is how many lessons to list at most, LessonsMinLimit to LessonsMaxLimit; LessonsDefaultLimit when 0. With
	// IncludeIneligible off, the lessons left out still count against the records read.
	Limit int
	// IncludeIneligible is whether to list the lessons retrieval would not return, each marked with why; true when nil.
	IncludeIneligible *bool
}

LessonQuery is what Lessons.List lists.

func (LessonQuery) EffectiveLimit

func (q LessonQuery) EffectiveLimit() int

EffectiveLimit is the limit asked for: LessonsDefaultLimit when 0.

func (LessonQuery) Validate

func (q LessonQuery) Validate() error

Validate refuses a limit outside LessonsMinLimit..LessonsMaxLimit (0 is the default) and statuses that are empty or hold an undefined one. Nothing runs against the store for an invalid query.

type LessonRecord

type LessonRecord struct {
	Record    ExperienceRecord
	Injection *InjectionSummary
}

LessonRecord is a record a store answered for the lessons view, with its injection summary (nil for a record never injected, or when the injections are not tracked).

type LessonRecords

type LessonRecords struct {
	// Records are the scope's live records, newest first (created_at descending, then experience ID ascending,
	// ordinally), at most the limit asked for.
	Records []LessonRecord
	// Answered is how many records the store answered, which is len(Records) unless it left some out (a sealed
	// payload, which a contract 1.x port cannot read). The lessons view reads "as many as were asked for" from it.
	Answered int
	// InjectionsTracked is true when the injections were read with the records: a store that tracks them and was able
	// to read them. False otherwise, and then a nil Injection means "not known", not "never".
	InjectionsTracked bool
}

LessonRecords is a store's answer to ListLessonRecords.

type Lessons

type Lessons struct {
	// contains filtered or unexported fields
}

Lessons is the read-only lessons view over a store. It is safe for concurrent use when its store is.

func NewLessons

func NewLessons(store LessonsReader, options LessonsOptions) (*Lessons, error)

NewLessons is the lessons view over store, with the block options and model-authored flag the injection uses. It refuses a nil store and block options the block cannot honour.

func (*Lessons) List

func (l *Lessons) List(ctx context.Context, bounds AuthorizationBounds, scope Scope, query LessonQuery) (LessonsPage, error)

List lists the lessons in exactly scope, newest first, under the caller's authorization bounds. It reads only: the scope's own live records (what another scope lends through a sharing grant is not listed), and never writes.

An invalid query is an error, before anything is read. A scope outside bounds is an empty page with the outcome Denied, never an error. A record that cannot be rendered is listed as IneligibleUnrenderable, and the rest are still listed. The work is bounded: at most LessonsMaxLimit records are read and rendered.

Listing lessons discloses them: serve the view only behind the host's own authorization.

func (*Lessons) ListFor

func (l *Lessons) ListFor(ctx context.Context, identity Identity, query LessonQuery) (LessonsPage, error)

ListFor lists the lessons in identity's scope, under its authorization bounds: List(identity.Authorization(), identity.Scope). The identity must come from your own authentication, never from a request's query or body.

type LessonsOptions

type LessonsOptions struct {
	// BlockOptions are the block's layout and limits: the ones the injection uses (the contract's defaults when zero).
	// MaxBytes is the byte budget a lesson's block is held against.
	BlockOptions BlockOptions
	// ExcludeModelAuthored marks model-authored lessons ineligible: the same flag the injection searches with.
	ExcludeModelAuthored bool
	// Clock stamps a page's GeneratedAt; Now when nil.
	Clock func() Instant
}

LessonsOptions are the lessons view's settings.

type LessonsOutcome

type LessonsOutcome string

LessonsOutcome says how a lessons read ended. Only Found carries lessons.

const (
	// LessonsFound is a page that was read (it may hold no lesson).
	LessonsFound LessonsOutcome = "Found"
	// LessonsDenied is a scope that lies outside the caller's authorization bounds: an empty page, and no statement ran.
	LessonsDenied LessonsOutcome = "Denied"
)

The outcomes.

type LessonsPage

type LessonsPage struct {
	// Scope is the scope listed: the caller's own.
	Scope   Scope
	Outcome LessonsOutcome
	// Lessons are newest first; never nil.
	Lessons []Lesson
	// GeneratedAt is when the page was read, by the view's clock.
	GeneratedAt Instant
	// HasMore is whether more lessons matching the query exist past Lessons, or may: the store answers at most
	// LessonsMaxLimit records, and when it answered as many as were asked for, more may be stored.
	HasMore bool
	// OutOfScopeDropped is how many records the store answered from outside the scope, which were left out (a
	// conforming store answers none).
	OutOfScopeDropped int
	// InjectionsTracked is whether the page was read with its injections (see LessonRecords).
	InjectionsTracked bool
}

LessonsPage is one page of lessons from one scope.

type LessonsReader

type LessonsReader interface {
	// ListLessonRecords reads the live records in exactly scope, newest first, filtered to statuses (nil: every
	// status), at most limit (1 to LessonsMaxLimit), each with its last injection when the store tracks injections. It
	// never writes. A scope outside bounds is ErrAuthorizationDenied and runs nothing; a statuses list that is empty
	// or undefined, or a limit out of range, is an error.
	ListLessonRecords(ctx context.Context, bounds AuthorizationBounds, scope Scope, statuses []ExperienceStatus,
		limit int) (LessonRecords, error)
}

LessonsReader is a Store that answers the lessons view's read (contract 1.7). Optional: the PostgreSQL store and the in-memory store both are.

type Member

type Member struct {
	Key   string
	Value any
}

Member is one member of a JSON object.

type Merged

type Merged[T any] struct {
	Item      T
	Relevance float64
	Source    Channel
}

Merged is one entry of the merged list: the candidate kept (the first channel's), the relevance kept, and the channel the candidate came from.

func MergeChannels

func MergeChannels[T any](text, vector []T, key func(T) UUID, relevance func(T) float64,
	minimumVectorRelevance *float64) []Merged[T]

MergeChannels is contract 1.6's steps 1 and 3. The floor drops vector candidates below minimumVectorRelevance (nil: no floor; one exactly at it stays; a NaN relevance is below any floor; text is never floored). The merge lists the text candidates in order, then the vector candidates in theirs; a record already listed keeps its position and the text channel's candidate, and takes the vector relevance, as given, only when its clamped value (NaN as 0) is higher.

type Message

type Message struct {
	Role         string
	Contents     []MessagePart
	Source       string
	CarriesBlock bool
}

Message is one message of an invocation. Source is where the framework says it came from: empty (which counts as External), External (new input), ChatHistory (replayed history), AIContextProvider, or any other. CarriesBlock marks a message stamped as carrying an injected block.

type MessagePart

type MessagePart struct {
	Type string
	Text *string
}

MessagePart is one part of a message: "text" with its text, or any other type (an image, a file), which carries none.

func NewObject(members ...Member) *Object

NewObject is an object holding members, in order.

func ObjectFromMap

func ObjectFromMap[V any](m map[string]V) *Object

ObjectFromMap is a Go map as an object, its members in ordinal (UTF-16) order of their names: a Go map has no order of its own.

func (*Object) Set

func (o *Object) Set(key string, value any)

Set sets the member named key, in place when it exists, else appended.

type Observation

type Observation struct {
	Source    string
	Operation string
	// Outcome is the operation's own outcome, or OutcomeFaulted when it failed with an error.
	Outcome string
	// ErrorClass is set when the operation failed (and for a record_injection that failed without raising).
	ErrorClass string
	// ErrorType is the error's type name and nothing else from it; set only for a failed operation.
	ErrorType  string
	Attributes []Attribute
	// Nested reports whether another instrumented operation of the same source called this one.
	Nested bool
}

Observation is what an operation ended as.

type Observer

type Observer interface {
	Start(ctx context.Context, source, operation string, nested bool) (context.Context, any)
	Finish(token any, observation Observation)
}

Observer receives what the library does. Start runs when an operation begins and returns the context the operation runs in (so a span can parent the operations it calls) and a token handed back to Finish. Both may be called from any goroutine.

func CurrentObserver

func CurrentObserver() Observer

CurrentObserver is the registered observer, or nil.

type Operation

type Operation struct {
	// contains filtered or unexported fields
}

Operation is one in-flight operation of a registered observer. A nil *Operation (what Observe answers when nothing is registered) accepts every method and does nothing.

func Observe

func Observe(ctx context.Context, operation string, nested bool) (context.Context, *Operation)

Observe opens operation (a key of ObservedOperations) for the registered observer and returns the context it runs in. With no observer registered it returns ctx and nil, and allocates nothing. nested says another instrumented operation of the same source called this one; inject and record_injection are never nested.

func (*Operation) Done

func (o *Operation) Done(outcome string)

Done reports the outcome the operation returned. Only the first report counts.

func (*Operation) DoneWithClass

func (o *Operation) DoneWithClass(outcome, errorClass string)

DoneWithClass reports a returned outcome that also counts a failure (errorClass non-empty), for an operation that reports its failure as an outcome instead of an error (record_injection).

func (*Operation) End

func (o *Operation) End()

End closes an operation that reported nothing (a panic unwinding through it, or an exit that forgot to report) as Faulted/Unexpected, as .NET closes an unreported injection. Defer it: it does nothing after Done or Fail.

func (*Operation) Fail

func (o *Operation) Fail(err error)

Fail reports an operation that failed with err: outcome Faulted, the error's class and its type name only.

func (*Operation) Set

func (o *Operation) Set(key string, value any)

Set records a span attribute (a string, an int or a bool).

type OperationSpec

type OperationSpec struct {
	Source   string
	Span     bool

	Components []RankingComponent
}

RankedRecord is a record as retrieval ranked it: its score and the components it was computed from.

func RankedFromJSON

func RankedFromJSON(entries any) ([]RankedRecord, error)

RankedFromJSON reads an inject fixture's records.json: each {"record": <stored record>, "ranking": {"score", "components"}}, as DecodeJSON reads it. A missing score reads as NaN.

func Score

func Score(row *SearchRow, now Instant, preferredEnvironment map[string]string) RankedRecord

Score scores one row with the default weights, components in the contract's order.

type RankedResult

type RankedResult struct {
	Ranked    []RankedRecord
	Truncated bool
}

RankedResult is the ranked records, best first, and whether the statement returned more rows than the candidate limit.

func Rank

func Rank(rows []SearchRow, scope Scope, now Instant, preferredEnvironment map[string]string,
	excludeModelAuthored bool) (RankedResult, error)

Rank turns rows into ranked records: the safety checks over the first 50 rows (an error wrapping ErrSearchSafety), truncation to 50, filtering, then scoring and ordering by score, descending, ties by experience_id as text, ascending, ordinal.

func RankHybrid

func RankHybrid(textRows, vectorRows []SearchRow, scope Scope, now Instant, preferredEnvironment map[string]string,
	minimumVectorRelevance *float64, excludeModelAuthored bool) (RankedResult, error)

RankHybrid is the whole of contract 1.6's steps 1 to 4: the floor, the per-channel checks and truncation, the merge, then Rank's scoring over the merged candidates (each with the relevance kept). Rank looks at 50 rows, so the merged list (up to 100) is ranked in slices of 50: a row's score does not depend on the others, and the slices are put back in the order Rank itself uses (score descending, then experience ID).

type RankingComponent

type RankingComponent struct {
	Kind   RankingComponentKind
	Value  float64
	Weight float64
}

RankingComponent is one component of a ranking.

func (RankingComponent) Contribution

	// Arguments are the call's arguments: decoded JSON (DecodeJSON) or Go values (see SanitizationPolicy.Sanitize).
	Arguments *Object
	StartedAt Instant
	Duration  Duration
	Result    *string
	Error     *string
}

RawToolCall is a tool call as the host observed it, before sanitization.

type Reflection

type Reflection struct {
	ReflectionID            UUID
	ExperienceRunID         UUID
	Lesson                  string
	SuccessfulApproaches    []string
	FailedApproaches        []string
	Preconditions           []string

	Authorship Authorship
}

Reflection is the lesson a record carries.

func Reflect

func Reflect(run *CapturedRun, evaluation *VerificationResult, reflectionID UUID, createdAt Instant) Reflection

Reflect is the deterministic reflection of a finished run. No tool name, argument or error text beyond its class reaches the lesson.

func Screen

func Screen(reflection Reflection) (Reflection, error)

Screen is the screening finalization applies before a reflection is stored, for a deterministic reflection: every text neutralized, blank list items dropped, the limits enforced. It returns an error wrapping ErrScreeningRefused.

type Rendering

type Rendering string

Rendering is the block's layout.

const (
	RenderingCompact Rendering = "Compact"
	RenderingVerbose Rendering = "Verbose"
)

The layouts.

type RequiredCheck

type RequiredCheck struct {
	CheckID      string
	ExpectedKind string
}

RequiredCheck is a check the run must pass, and the evidence kind that satisfies it (AnyKind accepts any).

type RunCapture

type RunCapture struct {
	// contains filtered or unexported fields
}

RunCapture captures one run. It is not safe for concurrent use: one run is captured by one caller.

func StartRun

func StartRun(run CapturedRun, sanitization Sanitization, limits CaptureLimits) (*RunCapture, error)

StartRun starts capturing a run. It starts exposed to nothing: exposures are recorded with RecordExposure. A zero Sanitization means DefaultSanitization() and zero CaptureLimits mean DefaultCaptureLimits(); any other limits must be strictly positive. The ToolResult policy must keep the "value" field (allowlisted, not a secret name): one that dropped it would silently store every result and error as null, so it is refused.

func StartRunContext

func StartRunContext(ctx context.Context, run CapturedRun, sanitization Sanitization,
	limits CaptureLimits) (*RunCapture, error)

StartRunContext is StartRun reporting to the observer (SetObserver) under ctx, so the operation's span is a child of the span ctx carries.

func (*RunCapture) AppendAttempt

func (c *RunCapture) AppendAttempt(attempt RawAttempt) (AppendOutcome, error)

AppendAttempt sanitizes and records one attempt, and returns capture's answer. An attempt with an empty AttemptID is an error: it could never be told apart from another.

func (*RunCapture) AppendAttemptContext

func (c *RunCapture) AppendAttemptContext(ctx context.Context, attempt RawAttempt) (AppendOutcome, error)

AppendAttemptContext is AppendAttempt reporting to the observer (SetObserver) under ctx.

func (*RunCapture) Complete

func (c *RunCapture) Complete(status RunExecutionStatus, endedAt Instant) (AppendOutcome, error)

Complete ends the run, which Run then returns; no attempt or exposure is recorded after this. The status must be Completed, Failed or Cancelled, and the run cannot end before it started (both are errors). A run completes once: a second call answers Conflict and changes nothing.

func (*RunCapture) CompleteContext

func (c *RunCapture) CompleteContext(ctx context.Context, status RunExecutionStatus,
	endedAt Instant) (AppendOutcome, error)

CompleteContext is Complete reporting to the observer (SetObserver) under ctx.

func (*RunCapture) RecordExposure

func (c *RunCapture) RecordExposure(exposures ...RunExposure) (AppendOutcome, error)

func (c *RunCapture) Run() CapturedRun

Run is the run as captured so far.

type RunExecutionStatus

type RunExecutionStatus string

RunExecutionStatus is how a run ended.

const (
	RunCompleted RunExecutionStatus = "Completed"
	RunFailed    RunExecutionStatus = "Failed"
	RunCancelled RunExecutionStatus = "Cancelled"
)

How a run ends.

type RunExposure

type RunExposure struct {
	ExperienceID UUID
	Revision     int64
}

RunExposure is a stored record a run was shown, by ID and revision.

func HoldoutRecords

func HoldoutRecords(assignment HoldoutAssignment) ([]RunExposure, error)

HoldoutRecords validates an assignment and returns its records to write: each record once, at the revision it was first named with, in order. An empty run ID, an arm other than HoldoutTreatment or HoldoutWithheld, more than MaxRecordInjectionIDs records, a nil record ID or a negative revision is an error.

type Sanitization

type Sanitization struct {
	ToolArguments SanitizationPolicy
	ToolResult    SanitizationPolicy
}

Sanitization is the two policies capture applies: one to tool-call arguments, one to results and errors.

func DefaultSanitization

func DefaultSanitization() Sanitization

DefaultSanitization keeps no argument value (nothing allowlisted), keeps results and errors, and redacts secret names.

func SanitizationAllowing

func SanitizationAllowing(argumentNames ...string) Sanitization

SanitizationAllowing is the default, with exactly argumentNames allowlisted for tool-call arguments.

type SanitizationLimits

type SanitizationLimits struct {
	MaxDepth           int
	MaxFieldCount      int
	MaxValueLength     int
	MaxFieldNameLength int
}

SanitizationLimits are what sanitization refuses: a payload beyond any of them is refused whole. Lengths are UTF-16 code units. The zero value means DefaultSanitizationLimits(); any other value must have every field strictly positive.

func DefaultSanitizationLimits

func DefaultSanitizationLimits() SanitizationLimits

DefaultSanitizationLimits are contract 1.x's.

func (SanitizationLimits) Validate

func (l SanitizationLimits) Validate() error

Validate refuses limits that are not the zero value (the defaults) and have a field that is not strictly positive.

type SanitizationPolicy

type SanitizationPolicy struct {
	// AllowedFieldNames are kept, matched exactly.
	AllowedFieldNames map[string]bool
	// SecretFieldNames are redacted, matched ignoring case ordinally; nil means DefaultSecretFieldNames().
	SecretFieldNames []string
	// Limits are the limits a payload must stay within; the zero value means
	// DefaultSanitizationLimits(), and any other must pass SanitizationLimits.Validate.
	Limits SanitizationLimits
}

SanitizationPolicy is which field names are kept, which are secrets, and the limits a payload must stay within.

func NewSanitizationPolicy

func NewSanitizationPolicy(allowed ...string) SanitizationPolicy

NewSanitizationPolicy is the default policy with exactly allowed allowlisted.

func (*SanitizationPolicy) IsSecret

func (p *SanitizationPolicy) IsSecret(name string) bool

IsSecret reports whether name is a secret name, ignoring case ordinally (as .NET's OrdinalIgnoreCase does: the long s is not s, and the dotless i is not i).

func (*SanitizationPolicy) Sanitize

func (p *SanitizationPolicy) Sanitize(fields *Object) (*Object, error)

Sanitize is the sanitized fields. It returns an error wrapping ErrSanitizationRejected for a payload beyond the limits. A field's value may be any JSON value DecodeJSON reads, or a Go one: a map with string keys, a slice, an integer or a float (a NaN or an infinity is refused). Any other value is omitted, never passed through unexamined. Limits that fail SanitizationLimits.Validate are an error that does not wrap ErrSanitizationRejected.

type Scope

type Scope struct {
	TenantID      string
	ApplicationID string
	ProjectID     string
	TeamID        *string
	AgentID       *string
	UserID        *string
}

Scope is where a record lives. The optional fields are nil when unset, never the empty string.

func (Scope) Equal

func (s Scope) Equal(other Scope) bool

Equal reports whether two scopes are exactly the same.

func (Scope) Fields

func (s Scope) Fields() []*string

Fields are the six scope fields in the contract's order; nil for an unset one.

type SearchParameters

type SearchParameters struct {
	Scope    Scope
	TaskText string
	// Statuses are EligibleStatuses() when nil; when set, a non-empty list of status member names.
	Statuses []ExperienceStatus
	// MinConfidence is DefaultMinConfidence when nil; when set, a finite number from 0 to 1.
	MinConfidence *float64
	// Limit is StatementLimit when 0, and may be nothing else: ranking detects truncation by the statement returning
	// one row more than the candidate limit, so another limit would break it.
	Limit                int
	ExcludeModelAuthored bool
	// WithGrants must be false: grants are outside contract 1.x.
	WithGrants bool
	// MinimumMatchedTerms is DefaultMinimumMatchedTerms when 0; when set, from 1 to math.MaxInt32 (the SQL takes an
	// integer).
	MinimumMatchedTerms int
}

SearchParameters are sql/search-experience-text.sql's parameters.

func NewSearchParameters

func NewSearchParameters(scope Scope, taskText string) SearchParameters

NewSearchParameters are the contract's defaults for a scope and a task text.

func (SearchParameters) Validate

func (p SearchParameters) Validate() error

Validate refuses a blank or overlong task text (longer text is refused, not cut), grants, a limit other than StatementLimit, a minimum matched terms outside 1 to math.MaxInt32, a minimum confidence outside 0 to 1, and an empty or unknown status.

func (SearchParameters) Values

func (p SearchParameters) Values() (map[string]any, error)

Values are the statement's named parameters, as Go values: optional scope fields nil, statuses a []string, the limit and the minimum matched terms int32. Parameters that fail Validate are an error.

type SearchRow

type SearchRow struct {
	Record        ExperienceRecord
	Relevance     float64
	SharedByGrant bool
}

SearchRow is one row the text search returned: the record, and its relevance widened to a double.

func CheckChannel

func CheckChannel(rows []SearchRow, scope Scope) ([]SearchRow, error)

CheckChannel is contract 1.6's step 2 for one channel: over its first CandidateLimit candidates, one outside scope or a repeated experience ID is an error wrapping ErrSearchSafety; it returns those first candidates.

type Store

type Store interface {
	// InsertFinalized writes a finalized record and its initial lifecycle event; actor is the authorizing principal,
	// and recordedAt (now when nil) the time the event is recorded.
	InsertFinalized(ctx context.Context, bounds AuthorizationBounds, finalized *FinalizedExperience, actor string,
		recordedAt *time.Time) error
	// Search runs the contract's text search and returns its rows in order, for Rank.
	Search(ctx context.Context, bounds AuthorizationBounds, parameters SearchParameters) ([]SearchRow, error)
}

Store is what an agent integration needs of a store: write a finalized record with its initial lifecycle event, and run the text search. The PostgreSQL store (the postgres module) and the in-memory store (the inmemory module) both are one. Every call declares the host's authorization bounds, never a request's scope.

type ToolCall

type ToolCall struct {
	ToolCallID     UUID
	SequenceNumber int64
	ToolName       string
	Arguments      *Object
	StartedAt      Instant
	Duration       Duration
	Result         *string
	Error          *string
}

ToolCall is one stored tool call. Its arguments are the sanitized arguments, their numbers kept as written.

type ToolResultClassifier

type ToolResultClassifier func(ToolResultContext) (class string, failed bool)

ToolResultClassifier names the error class a returned call is recorded as failed with; failed is false when the call is recorded as returned. An integration records a class that is not one error-class token (IsSingleToken, after trimming surrounding whitespace) as ToolReportedErrorClass.

func ExitCode

func ExitCode(toolNames ...string) ToolResultClassifier

ExitCode classifies a result by its exit code: "exit N" for a non-zero code N, not failed for zero or when the result names no exit code.

In text it finds exit=N, exit N, exit code N, exit status N, exited with code N, returncode=N, "exitCode": N, "exit_code": N, "returnCode": N or "return_code": N; in a JSON object, the first top-level exitCode, exit_code, returnCode or return_code member (ignoring case) whose value is a number or a numeric string. A non-zero code that no error-class token can carry (more than six digits, or not an integer such as 1.0) is ToolReportedErrorClass. It panics on a blank tool name.

func HTTPStatus

func HTTPStatus(toolNames ...string) ToolResultClassifier

HTTPStatus classifies a result by its HTTP status: "HTTP N" for a status N from 400 to 599, not failed otherwise, or when the result names none.

In text it finds a leading HTTP N (or HTTP/1.1 N) or status N, else the last "status": N or "statusCode": N pair; in a JSON object, the first top-level status, statusCode or status_code member (ignoring case) whose value is a number or a numeric string. It panics on a blank tool name.

type ToolResultContext

type ToolResultContext struct {
	ToolCallID UUID
	ToolName   string
	Arguments  *Object
	Result     any

ToolResultContext is what a tool-result classifier sees for one tool call that returned: the call, the tool, the arguments capture recorded for it, and the raw value it returned. Nothing else, in particular no model text other than the tool's own result.

The arguments are the raw ones, before sanitization, so secrets the model passed reach the classifier: never log or keep them. Result is the live value the model receives: never change it. An integration may hand a framework's own content items over as their text (the Agent Framework integration does).

type VectorFallback

type VectorFallback struct {
	Reason VectorFallbackReason
	Detail string
	Err    error
}

VectorFallback says the vector channel did not contribute: the contract's reason, a sentence that never quotes record or vector content, and the error, when there was one.

type VectorFallbackReason

type VectorFallbackReason string

VectorFallbackReason is why an injection answered from text alone (contract 1.6).

const (
	FallbackNotConfigured       VectorFallbackReason = "NotConfigured"
	FallbackProviderUnavailable VectorFallbackReason = "ProviderUnavailable"
	FallbackModelMismatch       VectorFallbackReason = "ModelMismatch"

	Distance float64
}

VectorHit is one record the vector search returned, and its cosine distance (NaN for a zero-magnitude vector).

func OrderHits

func OrderHits(hits []VectorHit) []VectorHit

OrderHits orders hits nearest first; equal distances by experience ID as text, ordinally; NaN after every number, equal to each other. It sorts hits in place and returns them.

func (VectorHit) Relevance

func (VectorQuery) Validate

func (q VectorQuery) Validate() error

type VectorSearchOutcome string

VectorSearchOutcome is how a vector search ended.

const (
	VectorFound             VectorSearchOutcome = "Found"

type Verdict

type Verdict struct {
	RequiredChecks   []RequiredCheck
	Evidence         []Evidence
	ArtifactRevision string
}

Verdict is the host's verdict on one run: the checks it had to pass, the evidence from the host's own checks, and the artifact revision they were run against (it closes the round and is the current revision).

type Verification

type Verification struct {
	// ClosedRound is the round the host closed; nil when none was.
	ClosedRound             *ClosedVerificationRound
	RequiredChecks          []RequiredCheck
	Evidence                []Evidence
	CurrentArtifactRevision string
	FinalizedAt             Instant
}

Verification is the host's verification of a run.

type VerificationContext

type VerificationContext struct {
	Run      CapturedRun
	RoundID  UUID
	Identity Identity
	// Clock is Now when nil.
	Clock func() Instant
	// NewID is NewRandomUUID when nil.
	NewID func() UUID
}

VerificationContext is what a verifier is given: the completed, sanitized run, the round it is checked in, the identity it ran under, and the clock and identifier source evidence is made with.

func (*VerificationContext) CreateEvidence

func (c *VerificationContext) CreateEvidence(checkID, kind string, result CheckResult, producer,
	artifactRevision string, detail *string) Evidence

CreateEvidence is a piece of evidence for this round: a new identifier, RoundID, and the current time. The result must come from the host's own check, never from the model.

type VerificationResult

type VerificationResult struct {
	Outcome         Outcome
	CompletionScore float64
	RuleVersion     string
	ClosedRound     *ClosedVerificationRound

	VerificationVerified VerificationStatus = "Verified"
	VerificationFailed   VerificationStatus = "Failed"
)

type Verifier

type Verifier func(ctx context.Context, verification *VerificationContext) (*Verdict, error)

Verifier decides whether a run is stored, and how: a verdict, or nil for "do not store".

func AllOf

func AllOf(verifiers ...Verifier) Verifier

AllOf verifies a run by every one of verifiers: it runs them in order and returns one verdict with all their required checks and evidence, so the run is stored Validated only when every check passes. When one returns nil it stops there (the rest are not run, so no person is asked for an approval needlessly) and the run is not stored.

The combined revision is the one revision the verifiers name other than UnversionedRevision (evidence of a verifier given no revision is restamped with it), else UnversionedRevision. Two different explicit revisions or two verifiers requiring the same check are an error, so the run is not stored and the failure is reported.

func AnyOf

func AnyOf(verifiers ...Verifier) Verifier

AnyOf verifies a run by the first of verifiers that passes: it runs them in order and returns the first verdict that passed, without running the rest. A verdict passed when it requires at least one check and every required check has evidence for this round and the verdict's revision, with that check's identifier and a kind it accepts (AnyKind accepts any), all of it Pass. When none passes, it returns the first verdict any returned, so the failure is stored Quarantined; when all return nil, the run is not stored.

func Approval

func Approval(checkID string, decide func(context.Context, *VerificationContext) (*ApprovalDecision, error),
	options ...VerifierOption) Verifier

Approval verifies a run by a person's decision: approved passes, rejected fails (the run is stored Quarantined), and nil means the run is not stored. The evidence is of kind HumanApproval, and the approver's identifier is stored verbatim as its producer. A decision naming no approver is an error, so the run is not stored and the failure is reported. The approver must come from the host's own authentication.

func Check

func Check(checkID string, check func(context.Context, *VerificationContext) (*bool, error),
	options ...VerifierOption) Verifier

Check verifies a run by the host's own check: true passes, false fails (the run is stored Quarantined), and nil means the run is not stored. The evidence is of kind HostCheck, produced by "host". The verdict must come from the host's own code (a test run, an exit code, a query), never from the model's claim.

func ToolSucceeded

func ToolSucceeded(toolName string, options ...VerifierOption) Verifier

ToolSucceeded verifies a run by the outcome of its last call to toolName: the calls are ordered by attempt sequence, then by call sequence within the attempt, across all of the run's attempts, and the last one decides. A call that returned passes; a call that failed (its tool returned an error, or the classifier named an error class for it) fails, and the run is stored Quarantined. A run with no such call is not stored.

It decides from each captured call's tool name (exact match), sequence numbers and error, never from a result, so it works when sanitization redacts results. A tool that reports failure in its return value (an exit code, an HTTP status) counts as returned unless a classifier classifies it, for example ExitCode. The evidence is of kind ToolOutcome, produced by "tool:" + toolName; its detail names only the failed call's error class.

type VerifierOption

type VerifierOption func(*verifierSettings)

VerifierOption changes a ready-made verifier.

func WithArtifactRevision

func WithArtifactRevision(revision string) VerifierOption

WithArtifactRevision names the artifact revision the verifier's evidence is for (not blank).

func WithCheckID

func WithCheckID(checkID string) VerifierOption

WithCheckID names ToolSucceeded's check (not blank); by default it is the tool's name. The other verifiers take their check ID as an argument and refuse this option.
