ComposeExceptionsFromPipeline takes a slice of Exception pointers and composes a suitable error. If all elements of the slice are either nil or OK, a nil is returned. If there is exactly non-nil non-OK Exception, it is returned. Otherwise, a PipelineError built from the slice is returned, with nil items turned into OK's for easier access from elvishscript.

	// for a list), or a string enclosed in "<>" containing the kind and
	// identity of the Value(like `<fn 0xdeadcafe>`).
	//
	// If indent is at least 0, it should be pretty-printed with the current
	// indentation level of indent; the indent of the first line has already

func NewBackedVariable

func NewBackedVariable(ptr interface{}) Variable

NewBackedVariable creates a variable backed by a pointer to something of a Value-compatible type.

A Value-compatible type can be converted to and from a Value. The conversion to a Value is always safe, while the conversion from a Value might throw an Exception if an incompatible value is given. Currently the following types are supported:

  1. string, treated as the same as the String type. That is, conversion of a string s to Value is String(s), and conversion from Value succeeds as long as the Value has type String.
  2. int. Converts to a String; conversion from Value is defined by toInt, with error turned into Exception.
  3. float64. Converts to a String; conversion from Value is defined by toFloat, with error turned into Exception.
  4. Any type that implements Value. Conversion to Value is a safe type cast, and conversion from Value is a type assertion, with failed assertion converted to an Exception.

The function panics if the argument is not a pointer to a Value-compatible value.

Notes

Bugs

  • We rely on the fact that os.Unsetenv always returns nil.

  • When evaluating closures, async access to global variables and ports can be problematic.
